First Sign of Spring

On the way in from picking up dinner the other night, I noticed the snowdrops pushing through the cold, cold ground and the mulch from last year into the still wintry air.

Such shy little things, the snowdrops, delicate and coy, bowing their heads against the winter wind.

Their arrival means spring is coming. They are harbingers of sunshine and rain and new green sprouts pushing through to the warmer air.

Everybody knows I love the winter, but I've lived in Michigan long enough to be like the natives here in looking forward to the sweet delicacies so typical of a Michigan spring.

These little white blossoms whisper to me, "it's coming..."
